Menghai County is located in the west of Xishuangbanna Dai Minority People's Autonomous Prefecture, borders on Myanmar, has an area of 5511 square kilometers and population of 280 thousand. The nationalities includes Han, Dai, Hani, Lahu, Bulang, Wa, Yi and Hui, due to further location, this is the most ethnic area of Xishuangbanna. The highest point in Menghai is Huazhuliangzi Peak, where the altitude is 2429 meters, which is also the top of prefecture, where Nanguo River converges into the Mekong is the lowest, 560 meters, similar level as Jinghong City. Menghai has a subtropical climate, annual average temperature is 18.1 degrees Centigrade.
