By Land - International Port on China-Lao Border Mohan Port is located on the very south point of Mengla County, on China-Lao border, is the busiest international port of Xishuangbanna. Port is about 180 km from Jinghong and 380 km from Luangphrabang -- the ancient Lao capital. International highway from Kunming to Thailand through northern Laos leads its way out of China here. Regular bus service is available between Xishuangbanna and Louang Namtha, Ban Houayxay, Muang Xay, Louangphrabang and Vientiane. |

By Land - Domestic Land Transport As roads of Yunnan are improved, bus is increasingly convenient for people to take for long distance travel. Regular bus service is available between Xishuangbanna and almost every part of province, especially Kunming --- the provincial capital, sleeping buses or express buses keep departing for the other side from morning to the evening. Due to too many destinations and changeable schedules, we suggest e-mailing or calling for more detailed and specific bus information. |

By River - Jingong Port Mekong is important linking between Thailand and China, was opened as international port in 2001. Down the river, Golden Triangle is only 350 km away, 10-hour ride by boat. For the moment there is regular boat service between Xishuangbanna and Chiang Saen of Thailand, Jinghong-Chiang Saen on 10th. and 25th., Chiang Saen-Jinghong on 11th. and 26th. of every month, but shipping company may cancel it due to insufficient passengers, so, more suitable for flexible travelers. Journey's nice, view is beautiful, even so I have to say. |

By River - Guanlei Port 140 km from Jinghong by road, is the last Chinese port on the Mekong. Across the river is Myanmar, 30 km down is Laos, 260 km away in the lower reach, Chiang Saen of Thailand. During low-water season when it's difficult for boats to navigate directly up to Jinghong, Guanlei is especially busy, both cargo and passengers in or out of China through Mekong will all be distributed here, but the same problem, the irregularity of boats. If can manage to get a lift on cargo boat through negotiation with captain, that can be even a nicer experience. |

As the traffic & transport conditions get better, Xishuangbanna area is not isolated or difficult to reach like before, on the contrary, this region is gradually becoming an convenient passage way in or out of China, by land, by river or by air. There is still some uncertainty, but already more possibility. |
