Jianshui County

Jianshui lies 220 kilometers away from Kunming in the south, is a state-level historic and cultural city. The area measures 3789 square km, its population is estimated at 500 thousand, of which more than one third consists of Yi, Hui, Hani, Dai and Miao ethnic Minorities. The county is under influence of sub-tropical climate, annual average temperature is 19 degrees, neither hot in summer nor cold in winter. Since the Yuan Dynasty, Jianshui was already the political, cultural and communication center in south Yunnan, and has always been an important gateway opened to Southeast Asia. From establishment of the city in the Tang Dynasty (618-907AD), Jianshui County has history of over 1,180 years. For long period this area has been deeply influenced by the culture of inland China, the long history of it resulted in its splendid culture, and its splendid culture left this town many historic sites, with more than 100 ancient temples, 50 ancient bridges and 56 state-level protected cultural relics, Jianshui enjoys the fame of "the Museum of Ancient Constructions", and some are still in use. Jianshui is also rich in natural resources, including manganese, iron, lead, zinc, copper and others, the reserve of manganese accounts for one-third of the national total. Besides, Jianshui is devoted to developing local handicrafts, Jianshui earthenware is the most well-known, it's one of the four most celebrated potteries of China.
